What inspired me to create an online course?
Why would you create a product vs. offering a service? When you offer a service in a sense you are the service. You only have so many hours in a week, so your income is capped. If you make a product and market it you can make money while you sleep, which is what inspired me to do online course creation.
Is online course creation right for me?
If you want to create another stream of income and you want to do it passively, online course creation is probably for you. It’s a great way to bring in passive income. Imagine living a life where you can sit back and relax more often instead of hustling and being on a hamster wheel.
This is for you if you:
- believe that slow and steady wins the race
- want to establish multiple streams of income
- have a strong desire to serve a community
- have an entrepreneurial spirit
- believe in investing in yourself
This is not for you if:
- you want to get rich quick
- you’re looking for a magic bullet
- you’re not willing to put in the work
E-learning set to hit $375 billion by 2026
You heard that right! The e-learning industry is set to hit $375 billion by 2026. Don’t think you’re too late. You can get a piece of the pie whether you teach a school subject or a hobby you’re passionate about.
As an online teacher, you are at an advantage because you’re used to teaching on a computer, you know how to navigate the equipment and you know how to create lesson plans. Educators also know how to break things down for students which is important for teaching any subject.
Live vs. pre-recorded classes
The main difference between live vs. pre recorded classes is the hours you put into live lessons and the interaction you have with the students.
When you’re live you are interacting with someone, but when you’re recording you have to get used to talking to the camera without anyone there. In the beginning, I was uncomfortable with this, but like anything you build a muscle and get more comfortable with it over time.
Don’t let something like being uncomfortable recording stop you. Challenge yourself and get out of your comfort zone. Try to think of the long-term outcome and how it could help your financial goals. Think of the pride you will have after creating something like a digital course.
Think about what the student will feel like when they’re watching a recording. In-person, students can ask questions. Make a plan for how students can reach you. Will they be able to communicate with you on the platform where you are hosting the course? Will you have a Facebook community that you will start?
With pre-recorded classes, students get lifetime access and you can offer them any future updates for free. I think it’s important that my students have access to updated pre-recorded classes.
online courses for kids vs adults
If you want to teach kids vs. adults find out what they want. In order to validate your course offer with market research.
What is market research? It’s talking to your potential customers or clients and asking them questions to see what they need help with. You can reach out to people on your email list or social media accounts and find out if they would be willing to do a short call and get their input about your potential idea.
If you plan to make a course for kids you’ll have to talk to their parents. If possible, ask the parents if you can also speak to their kids and find out what they like about their current teachers. Ask what kids enjoy, what they are watching, and what activities they do or want to learn.
If you’re doing a course for adults, you’ll reach out to your potential customers and ask them what problems they’re having related to your niche and what their goals are.
Once you have this information you can create your course.

How to get people to buy your course
There are several ways to get people to buy your course. I do a live webinar that I call a masterclass where I teach the attendees something valuable that is related to my course topic. At the end, I tell them how they can work with me through my course. This is a big undertaking, but so worth it. Not only from a financial perspective but also being on the journey of seeing my students grow their businesses.
People are getting used to learning at their own pace, from the comfort of their own home. Its’ a great time for people to buy your course if you’re thinking about being able to teach to a larger audience!
