Gogokid – General Information
If you haven’t heard of Gogokid, it’s an Online ESL school for kids ages 5-12 based in China. You’ll get the opportunity to teach students from the comfort of your own home. Gogokid is awesome because the application and interview process is easy, especially compared to VIPKID.
In 2016 I started teaching ESL online after I quit my job as a public school teacher. I now work for multiple companies in this industry. I can attest to the statement, “I have the best job in the world!” and I want you to be able to say that, too.
Take a look at the information in this blog post and if you’re interested in applying, click any of the photos to use my referral link. I’m happy to answer your questions. You can leave a comment below or e-mail me at coach@nikkilubing.com
Gogokid Requirements
If you want to apply to Gogokid, make sure you have all of the Gogokid requirements. You have to have:
- a bachelor’s degree
- Internet speed is 20 MBPs or higher
- identification from the US or Canada
- Mac OS 10.8x or higher or a Windows 7 or higher
- an HD camera (internal or external)
- a headset with stable input and output
Gogokid requirements are standard for to teach ESL online to kids in China.

Gogokid Interview
The Gogokid Interview is by far the easiest interview process I’ve been through and I’ve applied to four different online ESL schools. It’s easy! First, you do one interview with a mock lesson. Next, you watch videos for the orientation. Third, they set you up with a current teacher to help you understand their platform within your first week of teaching. You do have to create a profile with a video clip introducing yourself to prospective students and their parents, which is standard for teaching ESL online.
Consequently, what you’ll love even more is that Gogokid pays well compared to other online ESL schools (see more below).

If you want to see a mock interview, watch the video below.
Gogokid Pay
Gogokid pay is $14-$25 an hour. First, you will get a base pay for teaching your class. On top of that, Gogokid also has a credit score system. With the credit score, you can earn more money by:
- teaching more classes per day
- earning valid 5-Star Evaluations
- getting fewer teacher no shows

Hours
Gogokid hours range from 12:00 am CST to 6:30 am CST (you’d finish teaching by 7:00 am CST). Another option is to teach at night from 7:00 pm CST to 11:30 pm CST. In the photos below, anywhere you see a fire icon is a peak time, when the majority of students are taking lessons.

Bookings
Just like any Online ESL company, bookings are not guaranteed. You have to open up consistent hours and open them as far in advance as possible. In the same vein, it’s a good idea to be strategic about opening classes when most other teachers don’t. For example, if most people are on holiday, open up some classes because the teacher demand will be high. High booking times in China are March-December.
Gogokid Review
My experience has been positive. I get paid on time every month and teaching is fun because their materials are interactive, which means some images are animated. The students I’ve taught at Gogokid have been well behaved and enthusiastic about learning English.
Applying to Gogokid
Applying to Gogokid is easy! All you need to do when applying to Gogokid is four simple steps, which makes applying to Gogokid the easiest application process ever! It only took me a couple of hours to complete all of the steps.
Need a TESOL certificate?
Gogokid requires you to have a TESOL.
I started teaching online in June of 2016 and since then I have worked at four different online schools. That’s why I know Gogokid has the most efficient application process. It is quick and painless, but they give you all the tools you need to succeed at the company.
The four steps you will take when applying to Gogokid include setting up your interview, doing a demo, filling out your profile (video, photos, passport/license, transcripts, etc.), watching a few training videos (easiest training videos ever by the way), and doing a mock class with a mentor teacher.
My favorite part about the process is that you get to work with a mentor teacher in their teacher portal. Most companies don’t give you access to the real teacher portal until you start working at the company. However, Gogokid wants you to learn how to use the portal with a real live teacher. All of the other companies focus more on how you teach, which is great, but they miss the step that includes the logistics of the portal.
Feeling prepared to teach at gogokid
Due to the fact that Gogokid provides training on these logistics right after you finish the training and paperwork, you really feel prepared! It helps cut down on nerves because when you are teaching on a new platform that is unknown to you, you can get super anxious and concerned about all the things that could go wrong. However, when you have a one-on-one live training, you have nothing to worry about! I really appreciate Gogokid including that in their application process.
When I taught my first class I definitely felt prepared and more confident than at any other company I have worked for thanks to that live training class in their portal.
Now let’s dig into the steps for applying to Gogokid!
Step 1 – Apply online
The first step for applying to Gogokid is to apply on their website. If you haven’t already applied, you can use my referral code: REZFQXRA. The main requirement is that you have a bachelor’s degree and a TESOL certificate. I recommend the International Open Academy’s TESOL because it’s both economical and effective.
Set up your interview (Referral Code: REZFQXRA). When I applied in September of 2018 there were very few interview slots. They are interviewing from Beijing so expect the times to be late evening or early morning hours. The first time I looked at the options there were no reasonable times for me, but then I checked back a day or two later and there was an opening that worked for me. So keep checking if you don’t see a slot right away. I have a video here that provides several tips on how to schedule your interview.
If you want to hear more about the application process, watch the video below.
Step 2 – Interview
The interview is 15 to 20 minutes long. They will ask you basic questions and you will have to do a 10 minute demo. To prepare for the demo you will have access to materials. Most importantly, they provide you with the type of qualities they are seeking for prospective hires before the interview. If you want to learn the ins and outs of the interview I highly recommend looking at my post about it here. Secondly, I have a mock interview demonstration on my YouTube channel here. Thirdly, To get the 2D props for the interview, click here.
Step 3 – Orientation, Paperwork, Second Demo
After the interview they send you an e-mail letting you know if you were hired or not. They told me they would respond within 24 to 48 hours and I heard back within 12 hours. I interviewed at 10:30 pm and got the congratulations e-mail at 5:30 am. Once they hire you, you will move forward with setting up your profile and doing orientation. You will also have to send in paperwork (degree, identification, and a teaching certificate if you have one). On your profile you have to create an introduction video, upload three pictures of yourself, and write a bio. For orientation you have to do 2 videos (25 minutes total) and 2 quizzes.
Gogokid added a second demo. You can enter the portal 30 minutes early to preview the materials. I recommend practicing a few times within that 30 minutes so you are confident with your props and the materials. No one will be in this demo, so you’ll be teaching to the computer screen. I highly recommend having a nice teacher background for your interview and your second demo.

Step 4 – Mock Lesson and Teaching
After you complete everything from number three you will be able to open up your availability to teach. First, you’ll have a trial class, but it is actually a mentor session. The mentor is a fellow teacher that will guide you through the tools in the teaching portal. Second, you will do a mock lesson so you can get feedback on your teaching. I wish every company would do this because it made me feel so much more confident going into my first lesson.
One Last Tip for the Gogokid Platform
By the way, please be advised, if you have manycam or camtwist and you attempted to delete them, but they are still defaulting as your main camera, plan to resolve that issue before your first lesson. In this case, unfortunately, you won’t be able to switch your camera. Check out my video on this to learn more.
If you have any questions at all, please leave them in the comments or e-mail me at coach@nikkilubing.com.

If you need a TESOL certificate, click here to get a great deal. A lot of companies will give you higher pay if you have a TESOL before applying.
what is the .com I’m to go to apply?

They will ask you for my referral code in the interview. Have it ready to copy and paste in the chat box during the interview if you apply.

Is there a person who currently is working do GOGo kids that is willing to mentor? I have many questions but need to talk to someone over phone.
Hi Amy, I got your e-mail.
I did an interview/demo but haven’t heard back yet. It’s been 3 days. Do they tell you if you don’t pass?
Can u re-do an interview or sign up again with different email?
HI Diana, did anyone get back to you today? They don’t usually respond on weekends. If they don’t respond by Tuesday then let me know.
Hi Nikki! Thanks for the info. I was wondering, you said something about they let you do the demo on another teacher’s portal? So prospective applicants can’t download the app beforehand? I’ve actually experienced the opposite, other companies ALLOW you to download their app/platform so you can practice with the tools and check any tech problems and also develop your delivery of the lesson. I actually find it weird that I can seem to download their platform app. I have an interview in 2 days.
Hi Jennifer! You can’t access Gogokid’s teacher portal until 30 minutes before the demo. Definitely practice using the tools, clicking the icons, using the mouse and the marker, etc. Whatever tools you use the student also uses. So if it’s on the marker, the student will also have the marker. They can’t click anything if it’s on the marker, so change it to the pointer tool so they can click objects on the screen. You can ask the interviewer for guidance before you start the demo if you need to.
Thank you for the response. I had an interview today and my interviewer seemed really receptive, however, she told me I would hear back from the company within 10 DAYS. Is that a sign telling me I shouldn’t look forward to getting hired?
How does one schedule an interview? I applied almost 2 months ago and have never found an available time to book. Instead I get a message that there are no bookings available. I have checked at all different times several times a day. Is the company still hiring?
Hi Stacie, I recommend doing the video interview where you record yourself doing the demo. We are still hiring.
With the new Chinese education laws going into place, does Gogokid provide an opportunity for teachers to earn a TESOL through their platform (similar to another company) or do we have to independently get a TESOL?
Hi Adam. You have to get your TESOL independently. I have a $19 option here: https://offers.internationalopenacademy.com/nikkilubing/course/tesol-course This is an affiliate link, so feel free to research other options, but it goes through all the elements offered by other TESOL/TEFL courses. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thank you Nikki! Very useful info! I am super nervous about the demo class! Is there a required amount of props we should use for the 10 minutes?
I would just use a few props that help the student comprehend. Use a hand, an arm, and the Gogokid unicorn. Go here to get the props and print them: https://nikkilubing.com/gogokid/
I have a Logitech camera that attaches to my screen (I have an old desktop computer). Is this good enough or do i need a certain brand? If so, what do you recommend? I can take videos and pictures of myself and that’s pretty much it. Is it self explanatory on how to use the camera to interact with someone else? I have never done that before! I have a headset as well but have never used it to talk to someone. I kind of feel dumb asking these questions but I just want to be prepared! Thank you!
Hi Maggie, don’t feel dumb at all! These are questions every new online teacher has. I use my built-in camera on my iMac or my Macbook Pro. I see a lot of people use this logi tech: https://amzn.to/2LXIpI1 In terms of interacting on camera, there’s not too much to it other than making sure your body is centered and your head is in view. I also recommend looking at the camera when you talk to the student, but also making sure to look at the student’s video as well. Kind of like a tennis match, but not as fast. LOL I hope that makes sense. My favorite headset is the Jabra Evolve 40: https://amzn.to/2rRDfWS Logi Tech headsets always burned out for me or caused noise problems.
I have a question about the interview/mock. Can you please email me? Thank you so very much!!!
Hi Jo, I am sending you an e-mail now.
