Course Ideas for TEachers
One of the main problems that educators face is being undervalued. To overcome the underwhelming pay that comes with teaching, consider creating your own digital course.
If you were here last week, you may remember that I talked about the online course creation industry being valued at $375 billion by 2026. If you want a piece of that pie, create your own digital course.
To be successful with creating an online course you will need to narrow down what topic you will want to focus on and think about whether or not you want to work with kids or adults. Also, will you be teaching a school subject or focus on a passion project?
Remember with any of these you always want to find out what the customer’s pain point is. Talk to your ideal customer before creating your course.
Now let’s dig into some course ideas for teachers!
Idea 1 – A course for kids
If your audience is kids, start with your area of expertise first. Next, speak directly with parents by doing market research calls. Some of the things you can find out during your market research calls are:
- What subjects do they want their children to learn or improve on?
- Do the parents have frustrations that they are facing?
- Are they lacking time to teach their children a certain subject? Or is their child falling behind on a certain subject?
All this information will help you to confirm whether your course idea is viable and will help you tailor what the course will entail.
Idea 2 – A course for audlts
Adults will be very similar in that you want to find out what their goals and struggles are. Are they looking to learn a new skill/hobby or improve on an existing one?
Remember just because you have an idea and think it’s amazing you don’t want to just start building a course without knowledge from your target audience. The key is not to make any assumptions about what your potential customer wants.
Idea 3 – teach a hobby or passion
As I mention in my video you don’t necessarily have to create a digital course based on what you teach online or in the classroom. I have seen many start their online course creation journey through passion projects. Such as knitting, gardening, and courses related to health
This brings us to the idea of whether to niche down. I have witnessed people who have achieved great success from niching down their digital course offer. I know people who have made tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, or even millions off of a niche topic. This should be enough to convince you to niche down!
If your audience is too broad your message won’t be clear and you’ll end up selling to no one.
creating an audience to sell to
You might be asking, “How do I create an audience to sell my digital course to?”
There are multiple ways in which you can grow an audience. If you haven’t heard my story, you might not know it took me four years of building my audience before I launched my course. This doesn’t mean it has to take you four years to make a course, however, I would say that building slowly is the best way to long-term success. Remember slow and steady wins the race!
Instead of building an audience organically, some people sell their courses directly through Facebook ads without worrying about creating content on a blog or social media.
Another way to sell is by creating an email list. In order to establish an email list you will need to build an audience through a Facebook group, YouTube channel, or blog.
People who sign up on your email list can opt-in to your freebie. The freebie can be something such as a video series or workbook.
By creating content you are creating credibility and also building trust, which is called the know, like, trust factor(KLT) factor. This is how I choose to connect with my community because I enjoy content creation and providing value to people in my niche.
